Data In Transit - Retail Intelligence Using Satellite Imagery
Each month and quarter throughout the year, large publicly-traded retailers like Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Target, Lowes and many others go to great lengths to file detailed financial documents; and to host in-depth discussions over long conference calls in order to provide investors a glimpse into the health of their business. Often comparing various measurements and metrics captured over specific time periods, these retailers cite highly anticipated data such as percent change of same store sales, increase or decrease in average check size, growth or decline in total transactions as well as a view into more straight forward measurements such as top line revenue or earnings per share. These measurements are eagerly awaited by analysts and investors who make large investment decisions based at least in part on these company reports.

WorldView-2, 8-Bands and Their Applications
Since its launch just over six months ago, WorldView-2 has acquired hundreds of thousands of square kilometers of high-resolution 8-band satellite imagery spread across the four corners of our globe. The eMap team is developing several innovative products that utilize the additional multispectral bands WorldView-2 can offer and we are excited about the possibilities.

Ordering Policy Change - Mixed QuickBird, WorldView-1 and WorldView-2 Now Possible
Effective immediately, eMap is pleased to offer a significant change to its ordering policies for high-resolution satellite imagery from the DigitalGlobe suite of satellites, i.e. QuickBird, WorldView-1 and WorldView-2, whereby we can now satisfy orders with a mix of data from any of these sensors. This policy change impacts both archive and tasking orders from DigitalGlobe satellites but does not impact the current list price for these products. Multi-sensor orders will give eMap customers the flexibility to order the DigitalGlobe archive data they need to cover their area of interest regardless of its source; as well as to fulfill their tasking orders in the timeliest fashion possible.

Bit depth is a means to assess the radiometric resolution of imagery products, be they collected by a satellite from space or by a camera from your hand. For the duration of this article, we will focus on bit depth as it relates to aerial and satellite sensors, though many of these statements would apply to bit depth as it relates to your hand-held cameras and video recorders.
