Tracking Changes in Our Constantly Updated US-Wide TaxRoll Plus+ Dataset - A Focus on the Marcellus Shale
In the past month, eMap has released exciting new products that expanded upon our popular US-wide ParcelPoint data layer. Specifically, we have added the ability to append constantly updated tax roll data to the parcel boundary shapefiles (i.e. to the ParcelPoint base product); and for those counties without shapefiles, we can deliver the tax roll data in spreadsheet format which can be queried by parcel address and identification number. We are particularly excited about the geographic extent and update frequency of the tax roll data as this standardized database contains every single county in the US (minus 15 extremely rural counties in Alaska); and ownership details are updated (or added when new parcels are created) on a daily basis!

GeoEye Responds to the Haiti Disaster
As soon as news broke that there was a major earthquake in Haiti, GeoEye mission planners directed the GeoEye-1 satellite to collect color, 0.41-cm ground resolution imagery over Port-au-Prince. On Jan. 13, from 423 miles in space, GeoEye-1 collected almost 3,000 square kilometers beginning at 10:27 a.m. EST. The imagery was downlinked to our ground station in Tromso, Norway and sent to our Dulles, Virginia production facility for processing. Sample pre- and post-earthquake imagery is featured in our online gallery at: www.geoeye.com. GeoEye-1 collected stereo pairs over Port-au-Prince on Jan. 16.

DigitalGlobe – An Incredible Response to a Terrible Tragedy
There’s an old saying that “a crisis can bring out the best in people.” Judging from our company’s response to the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake, that certainly holds true at DigitalGlobe. Since the moment the news was reported last Tuesday that a massive 7.0 earthquake had struck near Port-au-Prince, our company immediately responded. Within hours, our first satellite access to Haiti had been planned, loaded on to WV-1 and less than 18 hours later we collected our first set of images of Haiti. Since then, our full satellite constellation including QuickBird, WorldView-1 and WorldView-2 have collected an incredible amount of high-resolution imagery over not just the capital city, but over the entire country.

A Word from our CEO – New Satellites on the Horizon
Spot Image, based in Toulouse, France, has been in the commercial satellite imaging business for almost 20 years. For most of that time, they have been known for supplying medium resolution (2.5-m to 20-m) imagery; however, in 2010, that may all change. Spot Image’s Pleiades constellation, comprised of the Pleiades-1 and Pleiades-2 satellites, is set to bring you satellite imagery at a resolution of 50-cm and with a footprint of 20 km x 20 km. This footprint is about 25% larger than the footprint of any current high-resolution satellite. It is anticipated that Pleiades-1 will launch in Q4 2010 with Pleiades-2 to follow shortly in early 2011.
