Parcel Coverage of the Eagle Ford and Woodford Shales

At the recent ESRI PUG meetings in Houston, two oil shales that received significant attention – outside the Marcellus of course – where the Eagle Ford and Woodford Shales in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. With this in mind, eMap identified the counties that intersect the estimated boundaries of these shales; and then determined if ParcelPoint and Parcels Plus+ existed coverage.

GeoEye Announces Its Next Generation High-Resolution Satellite, GeoEye-2

On March 11th, GeoEye announced that it selected Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company – a key unit in Lockheed Martin with corporate headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland – to build its next generation satellite to be launched in late 2012. GeoEye-2 will provide to world’s most accurate and highest resolution color imagery to customers worldwide.

SPOT 5 Satellite Captures the Birth of a Giant Iceberg

The tongue of the Mertz Glacier, 100 km from Adélie Land, broke away from the Antarctic continent sometime between February 12 and 13.The ice tongue was already beginning to crack before it calved. Alerted by the LEGOS space geophysics and oceanography research laboratory based in France, Spot Image, an EADS-Astrium subsidiary, tasked the SPOT 5 satellite to capture the event.

Word of the Month – Off-Nadir Angle

For the April edition of GeoView, we will focus on an often overlooked but certainly important satellite and aerial imagery parameter, off-nadir angle (ONA). ONA defines the angle that the camera (both satellite and aerial) lens looks at the earth from. At-nadir is the point the camera is looking directly down at the ground; while the off-nadir angle would tell you how far from this point (in degrees) the lens is tilted.
